So it seems the
X1 being shown off at CeBIT following its MWC debut last month is equipped with a particularly curious
panel in its software load. Anyone care to take a guess? No cheating and looking at the one we've circled now. Yeah, okay, it's that big AT&T logo front and center, which makes an appearance in several of PHONE Magazine's shots of the interface. We'd like to believe that means that AT&T is a lock to pick up one of the hottest Windows Mobile devices ever manufactured, and indeed, it probably does -- its 3G radio is certainly ripe for the job -- but it's entirely possible to think that Sony Ericsson is still in the process of selling carriers on the device, and is simply trying to get 'em to crack a smile by loading their logo. Keep your fingers crossed, ladies and gentlemen.

We're not sure why Mariah Carey keeps putting nerdy dudes in her videos -- remember Jerry O'Connell showing up in Heartbreaker? (Don't ask how we knew that.) -- but her latest, Touch My Body, stars Jack McBrayer of 30 Rock fame, and takes it to the the next dorktastic level. Not only do the lyrics reference YouTube (and terrifyingly,
hunting you down if you so much as think about putting a certain type of video on it), but the video features Guitar Hero, laser tag, and Mimi requesting -- nay, demanding! -- to be upgraded to 802.11n WiFi because "... the download speed was killing me." We wish we were kidding. Mariah, look, we'll be honest -- CompuNerds are ripping you off. We don't usually do house calls, but we may make an exception if you ask nicely.

Believe it or not, Alienware's Aurora ALX rig was boasting quad SLI support
two whole years ago. After yesterday's official
launch of ATI's CrossFireX technology, now the ALX has another partner in quad GPU crime. Dubbed the Area-51 ALX CFX, this rig features a 3.0GHz Core 2 Extreme QX9650 processor, up to 4GB of RAM, a bevy of HDD choices, optional Blu-ray burner, a 1,000-watt power supply and of course, twin 1GB
Radeon HD 3870 X2 cards (four GPUs in all). Granted, this thing will run you
at least $5,649 as a CrossFireX-equipped rig, so think carefully if slicing into your son's college fund is really worth 4x the graphical mayhem.

Well, would you look at this? Not quite a year after we got some pretty strong whiffs of the
SGH-F110 fitness phone, the rumor has at long last become a reality. Heck, even the model name stayed the same. Slated to launch in the UK next month, the Samsung / Adidas F110 (miCoach) is out to take on the mighty Nike+ training system, and besides the obligatory heartbeat monitor and step counter, the handset also boasts a built-in MP3 player / FM tuner, two-inch LCD and a two-megapixel camera. Additionally, the currently unpriced phone will chime in when you're not running hard enough, but feel free to drown it out with jams packed on the 1GB of internal memory.

We've seen some pretty
shady dealings from disgruntled ex-employees in the past, but this one may have skyrocketed into the upper echelon of tales of corporate deceit. As the story goes, a 49-year old man known only as Jeong felt the need to copy over some 1,182 top secret plasma display technology-related files onto his personal drive before waltzing out of LG's doors for the final time in July of 2005. A few months later, Chinese manufacturer Changhong-Orion PDP-Chaihong welcomed him with open arms and paid him a fat salary of roughly $300,000 a year (not to mention a few perks: free apartment, vehicle etc.), while casually accepting both the aforementioned files and continued insider leaks at LG -- information supposedly valued at over a billion dollars. But despite Jeong's arrest upon his last return home to Korea, Changhong is still apparently on schedule to produce plasma panels based on LG's technology come this December. Can you say: hot water over international trade-secret law?

Toshiba's A and K series
Gigashot HD camcorders already boast 100GB and 80GB of built-in storage, respectively, but if you want to keep some of that space free, you'll soon be able to do so with Toshiba's new tailor-made DVD burner, which will apparently let you both off-load data or record directly to DVD-Rs. What's more, the drive also boasts composite, component and HDMI outputs to let you hook it up to your TV, and it thankfully includes a handy remote control as well. Look for this one to set you back ¥17,800 (or about $165) when it hits Japan on March 17th.

We had the chance to corner Acer at CeBIT to ask them about their plans for that
Eee PC killer. We received confirmation from Stefan Engel, Managing Director and Country Manager for Acer Germany, that they were on target for a Q2/Q3 release. Incidentally, they will continue to offer the 7-inch Packard Bell EasyNote XS (aka, Everex CloudBook, NanoBook, FIC CD260) along side the Acer branded 7- to 9-incher even though Packard Bell is all but officially an
Acer subsidiary.

We've already seen the
PlayStation 3 put to use for some
non-gaming tasks (other than playing Blu-ray movies), and it now looks like the U.S. Air Force is aiming to get in on the act as well, with it recently putting out a so-called Request for Proposal that is seeking 300 PS3s for a "technology assessment." Needless to say, their primary interest is in the console's powerful
Cell processor, which they say is the "only brand on the market that utilizes the specific cell processor characteristics needed for this program at an acceptable cost." Exactly what that program entails is unsurprisingly being kept under wraps, with the RFP only going so far to state that the Air Force Research Laboratory is "conducting a technology assessment of certain cell processors." Whatever it is, the Air Force certainly seems to be trying to keep costs as low as possible, with them apparently only interested in the 40GB model.

So now that the nine-inch Eee is
officially available with Windows XP pre-installed, people are wondering the obvious -- why XP and not Vista, since XP is being
discontinued in June and Vista can kinda-sorta be made
to run on an Eee? The answer, direct from Microsoft, is both obvious and a little surprising: Given the Eee's "other requirements," Asus and Microsoft "couldn't go the Vista route," presumably because the Eee doesn't really have the horsepower for it. Sure, but what caught our interest was that Microsoft is "in close discussions with Asus [regarding] how to take that forward... in regards to the
Windows 7 Europe timeframe." Windows 7, you'll recall, has that
lean new kernel, which would presumably make building a stripped-down version specifically for Eee-class machines easier -- but the last we heard, Windows 7 wasn't due until at
least mid-2009 (and possibly not until 2011), so either Microsoft is planning to continue shipping XP after June or Windows 7 is coming much earlier than we thought. Our money is on XP continuing to soldier on, but here's hoping.
